People find my YouTube channel all the time after watching someone else's "pros and cons of living in [city]" video — and more often than not, it's someone who's never actually lived here. I get it, but I always think: if you really want the truth about a place, ask someone who's actually lived and worked there for years. So here's my honest take, the same one I gave when I made my most-watched video on this exact topic.

The Pros

A genuinely tight-knit community. Klamath Falls is the kind of place where people know their neighbors, show up for each other, and care about where they live. That's not a marketing line — it's something you feel within a few weeks of being here.

Real outdoor access, not just talk. This year, Klamath Falls was named a 2026 IMBA Trail Town — one of only 28 communities nationwide, and one of just two in Oregon, to earn this national designation from the International Mountain Bicycling Association. The trail systems at Moore Park, Spence Mountain, and Brown Mountain offer everything from beginner-friendly rides to genuinely advanced terrain. And that's on top of Crater Lake National Park being less than an hour away.

Affordability that's still real. Compared to the rest of Oregon — especially Portland or Bend — home prices here go a lot further. You can find a comfortable starter home or a property with acreage for a price that would barely get you a condo elsewhere in the state.

A growing economy with real momentum. Between the Kingsley Field F-35 mission bringing long-term federal investment and new development at Oregon Institute of Technology, this isn't a town standing still. There's real growth happening here, and it's the kind of growth that supports stable jobs.

Genuine small-town pace. No long commutes, no traffic jams that eat your morning. If that matters to you, Klamath Falls delivers it in a way a lot of bigger cities can't anymore.

The Cons (Because Every Place Has Them)

Distance from a major airport. Klamath Falls has a regional airport, but if you're flying somewhere far, you're likely driving to Medford or further for more flight options. It's manageable, but it's a real adjustment if you're used to a major hub nearby.

Limited big-city amenities. If you want a huge selection of restaurants, large concert venues, or major retail, you won't find the same density here that you would in Portland or Sacramento. What you trade for that is everything above.

Winters have real weather. Klamath Falls sits at elevation in the Basin, and winters bring genuine cold and snow. If you're moving from somewhere mild, it's worth knowing what you're getting into.

It's still a smaller job market. While things are growing, if you're in a very specialized field, you'll want to confirm opportunities here line up with your career before making the move.

My Honest Bottom Line

I've lived and worked in Klamath Falls for years, and the things that brought me here are the same things that keep people here once they arrive: the community, the access to the outdoors, and a pace of life that actually lets you breathe. It's not the right fit for everyone — nowhere is — but if what you read above sounds appealing rather than like a dealbreaker, I think you'd genuinely love it here.

If you're seriously considering a move, I'd rather talk it through with you directly than have you guess from a video made by someone who's never set foot here. Reach out anytime.
